Our Staff Review of Matilda the Musical
Cambridge Theatre, London

At European Study Tours we think it is important our staff experience the visits to better inform you. Katharine, Rebecca, Rosie and Amelia all went to London and had the pleasure of seeing the thoroughly entertaining and darkly comic Matilda the Musical, based on Ronald Dahl's book, at the Cambridge Theatre. Here’s what they had to say:

Rebecca striking the 'Matilda' pose!

“An incredible show with amazing talent from a predominantly young talented cast. I really liked the comedy value that was added to lighten the mood of the darker underlying storyline. A show that will definitely appeal to all ages. Miss Trunchbull’s character was a particular highlight of the show for me.”  Amelia, Tour Consultant

“Matilda was excellent, students should love it (and do!) and feel represented! Trunchbull was of course wonderfully horrible but the kids stole the show, they were all fantastic. Personal highlight was a song set at the school gates on the first day of term involving the alphabet – combination of great song writing and staging. Loved it!” Katharine, Tour Planner

“We thoroughly enjoyed the show, and left grinning from ear to ear! Although the majority of the cast are children, this musical is suitable for all ages, particularly students! Our favourite character was definitely Mrs Trunchbull, she may have kept up with her fearsome exterior but her witty one liners had us laughing until our stomach’s hurt. The highlight of the entire show for us was the ‘swing scene’, it felt so magical and the characters must have worked so hard to get it perfect, never mind getting over a possible fear of heights… but we won’t say too much, you’ll have to go see it yourself! This show was full of life and colour from the moment it began, and I cannot recommend it enough for your trip to London!” Rosie, Tour Consultant

Curtains up! The Matilda stage

Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly helped turn Roald Dahl’s famous children’s book Matilda into a hit musical. Is the story of a very bright and rebellious little girl, with special powers. Matilda’s parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood, have no time for her and treat her as a nuisance.  At school Matilda has to contend with the terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull who rules the school with cruelty and fear. Matilda fights against the injustices at home and at school. Eventually she decides the grown-ups should be taught a lesson and in the process discovers her supernatural powers.
