Design & Technology LIVE! at Disneyland® Paris Student Conference Event

Bring Design & Technology to life for your students and fire their future career ambitions by showing them the many different paths a career could take at our Design & Technology LIVE! conference - all whilst enjoying the magic of Disneyland® Paris!

Experts from high profile organisations will provide relevant examples, supporting students in their portfolio preparation and investigations with a focus on product design, technology, sustainability and ethics. Through real-life experiences our speakers will give students the chance to hear about the challenges in designing new and better products for our society’s future, designing with new and smart materials, and designing for a more sustainable future. 

The interactive question and answer sessions allows them to ask the questions. In addition, a student workbook is provided prior to the event with background information on each of our speakers as well as subject-specific park challenges to complete in the Disney® Parks.

Who Is This For?

The event is designed to complement Design & Technology across the AQA, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC curriculums at Key Stage 4 (GCSE).  The event will support students in their portfolio preparation, as well as the practical aspect of their studies, by delving into a specific company with a focus on product design, technology, sustainability & ethics.

Jon Chase - Facilitator

Jon Chase is a science communicator, author and science rapper based in South Wales. He has an intense passion for scientific thinking and believes that knowledge should be made available in a way that allows as many people as possible the opportunity to gain access to it. He has presented science for BBC learning on TV and YouTube and also co-authored books on The Science of Star Wars, The Science of Harry Potter and The Science of Jurassic World. In 2017 he was awarded the Josh Award in Science Communication but is perhaps best known for his science raps, which he has produced for various learning establishments and organisations including NASA and the BBC.

Edwige Pereira

Edwige Pereira has worked at Disneyland Paris for over 14 years in a variety of senior Product Development & Merchandise roles. Edwige will draw on her expertise and share a behind the scenes look at the process and people involved in getting a product from initial idea to design development. 

Brendan Walker

Brendan Walker is the world’s first thrill engineer. He originally trained as an aeronautical engineer and industrial designer, and now runs Thrill Laboratory specialising in the creation and study of thrilling experience. Brendan has worked with clients from Alton Towers to Nissan, and is currently touring his own unlikely thrill ride – VR Playground – which is a mash up of two technologies: the millennia-old playground swing and 21st century virtual reality.

Brendan is Professor of Creative Industries at Middlesex University. He is a regular broadcaster, and most recently appeared on BBC’s The Apprentice You’re Fired during 'coaster week’.

 

Olivier Besson

Olivier Besson has been a Senior Manager Art Development and Visual Creative at Merchandise Division. Olivier will speak about the artistic process involved in merchandise and product creation, from idea to creation, to giving an exclusive look behind the scenes of Disney's famous merchandise. 

Roma Agrawal

Roma Agrawal MBE is a structural engineer and author, who has designed bridges, skyscrapers and sculptors with signature architects over the course of her fourteen-year career. Roma will share her experiences, including the six years she spent working on The Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe, designing the foundations and the 'Spire'.

Our LIVE! Events Team provide expert on-site support throughout your stay to make your trip as easy and memorable as possible:

Q&A Session

Our lively and interactive question and answer session gives the students control to ask the questions they want answers to.  All the speakers take to the stage to answer questions to provide different perspectives and to offer invaluable career advice from their own experience.

Workbook and Park Challenges

Our complementary workbooks are designed to be used as your group enjoy the Disney® Parks.  The workbooks contain park challenges which encourage students to take a step back and critically appraise the resort from their subject perspective. These park challenges provide opportunity for problem solving, decision making as well as working together so that your students get the maximum from the their time at Disneyland® Paris.
