    The Catalonia region, in northeastern Spain, is known for the lively beach resorts of the Costa Brava, the Pyrenees mountains and as home to surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. The coastal resorts with their abundance of hotels offers school groups a great value base from which to explore both Barcelona, the regional capital, and the surrounding area.

    While a visit to Barcelona with its art museums, historic monuments and distinctive Gaudí landmarks is sure to be the highlight it is worth venturing further a field to get a true feel of this distinctive region with its own identity and language. Visit the spiritual centre of the region Montserrat with its dramatic setting and stunning views, or the walled old town of Girona and the Roman amphitheatre at Tarragona to understand the regions rich and diverse history. The surreal can be explored at the Dali museum in Figueres and for those looking for thrills and spills Port Aventura, Spains most visited theme park, is also to be found in the region.

    1. Day Trip to Barcelona

      A day trip to Barcelona is a must during your stay. Your time in the city could take in the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, the most famous boulevard in Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia basilica and Parc Guell to see Gaudi's famous creations or take a tour of the Noucamp Stadium home to the city's famous football team.       Located on a hilltop at the branching of two rivers, Girona is a town that combines local traditions with a modern feel and thriving arts scene. Girona is known for its medieval architecture, walled Old Quarter and the Roman remains of the Força Vella fortress as well as its vast Gothic and Romanesque Cathedral.

    5. Dali Museum - Figueres

      The Dalí Theatre-Museum was built upon the remains of the former Figueres theatre. It contains the broadest range of works spanning the artistic career of Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), from his earliest artistic experiences and his creations within the Surrealist movement down to the works of the last years of his life.

    6. Montserrat

      At the top of the “Sacred Mountain” is a 9th Century Benedictine Monastery with a shrine to the “Black Virgin”. The dramatic location adds to the effect of the spiritual heart of Catalonia. Take the cable car to the top for spectacular views.

    7. Port Aventura - Salou

      One of the biggest theme parks in Europe with a water park and a beach area, most students will be happy to spend the day at the Port Aventura theme park, which has 5 ‘worlds’ (Mexico, the Far West, the Mediterranean, Polynesia and China) to explore. There is a mixture of shows, gentle rides, white knuckle rides and of course plenty of shops and places to eat.

    8. Aquopolis Water Park

      Aquopolis is one of the largest water parks in the Salou area offering a fantastic array of slides and water park attractions. It now has a tropical beach area complete with palm trees and hibiscus. A great way to entertain your group during your stay.
