Best Barcelona beaches

Barcelona’s beaches are the most entertaining; there are the sand-artists, drummers, volleyball, beach-side dominoes, water sports, climbing frames and exercise circuits as well as singing doughnut salespersons and in the fisherman’s quarter there are plenty of seafood eateries. Barcelona central beaches stretch over four areas:

Sant Sebastià Beach is overshadowed by the impressive and controversial sail-shaped architecture of the W Hotel whose transparent glass exterior reflect the waves. From here there is also a cable car stop to take you on a breath-taking ride up to Montjuïc hill and take in a bird’s eye view of Barcelona. Have a stroll around the yachts in Port Vell (old Port), visit the aquarium and the Museum of Catalan History nearby with its observation platform and views over the port of Barcelona.

Barceloneta Beach has the busiest, widest stretch of sand that’s perfect for a variety of sporting activities. Inbetween Barceloneta and Sant Sebastia is the unusual sculpture L’Estel Ferit (The Wounded Shooting Star or the cubes). The Marenostrum tower, another controversial building by Enric Miralles with its unusual design, is set back from the beach near Parc de la Barceloneta.

Nova Icaria Beach is located near the Olympic marina overlooked by a giant goldfish designed by Frank Gehry for the 92 Olympics, this beach is great for volleyball and water-sports. Finally move out of the center and you will find this quieter Bogatell Beach.
