  • Overview

Milan's museums and galleries are home to many great works of art, while more simple pleasures include climbing up to the roof of the Duomo, and enjoying the tranquillity and view over the city to the mountains. Milan's designer clothes and furnishings are of course a major attraction for many students of fashion and design, making it a great destination for a school trip or educational tour.

  • Reasons to Visit
    1. Duomo Cathedral

Duomo Cathedral is a stunning sight, stretching up high above the piazza del Duomo, and it is the third largest church in Christendom. It features no less than 3,500 statues, 135 spires, and five bronze doors carved by different artists. Students of Religion and Art will love this tourist attraction as it took 500 years to complete and is drenched in history. Visitors should take the lift to the roof to absorb the breathtaking view of the Alps.

    2. Bergamo

School trips to Milan can enjoy Bergamo, a real life tale of two cities. Bergamo Alta is the beautiful walled hilltop medieval city, and Bergamo Bassa is the lower city, built at the beginning of the 20th century. Bergamo is a walled city, in the foothills of the Alps, and offers vibrant restaurants with a backdrop of humming classical music. There is also a little museum, tucked down a side street, where you can find out more about the man and his works.

    3. Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore, Italy's second-largest lake, divides the regions of Piemonte and Lombardy. The lake's northern end, in the Alps, stretches into Switzerland, where Locarno is a popular lakeside destination.

    4. Castello Sforzesco

This collection of towers, castles and fortresses, is home to a number of paintings and sculptures, artefacts and tapestries including Bellini’s Madonna and Child and Michelangelo’s final work, the Rondanini Pieta sculpture.
