European Study Tours 4 Entrepreneurs took place on Monday at the Odeon, Leicester Square and for the fifth time was a huge success. Over 800 students attended and experienced first hand from 4 Entrepreneurs what it takes to be an entrepreneur and the bonuses and pitfalls of running your own business. Not one student will have come away and not been inspired by the speakers.
First up and wearing a gorilla mask, was self-styled, on-tree-prenuer Tristram Mayhew, Chief Gorilla, GO APE! Tristram calls himself an adventurepreneur and his sense of adventure and passion for the outdoors shone through during his presentation. Videos of the GO APE! Centre and photos of GO APE!’s tee-pee boardroom captivated the student audience.
The second entrepreneur on to the stage was the very glamorous Natasha Faith, CEO and designer, La Diosa, meaning goddess in Spanish. Natasha’s inspiration and creativity sparkled through like La Diosa’s sensational jewellery. The hard work and long hours that Natasha spoke about proved to the students that success is not always quick or easy to come by but worth it in the end. Her passion for and belief in her product and brand came across throughout her session.
After lunching in the West End students heard from 19 year old Louis Barnett of Chokolit. Having started his company aged only 12 and an unconventional education Louis really proved to students that you can overcome difficulties, Louis has Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, and become a success. Louis’ message was simply believe in yourself and work hard and you can achieve what you want to.
Last but not least Adam Goodyer of Concert Live was up on stage to finish the day. Adam spoke of how Concert Live began with a disagreement, not an argument he stressed, with his friend James Perkins on the last song played at a gig they had been at. From this Adam and James began Concert Live which records gigs live and makes them accessible immediately after a gig. Adam spoke of his passion for music and how persevering and overcoming knock backs was a big part of Concert Live’s road to success.
Dermot Murnaghan, Chairman for the day, kept the event to time and ensured question and answer sessions flowed brilliantly. His brilliant stage presence and charisma ensured students were comfortable asking questions and there were many questions from students throughout the day. Dermot also was amazing during the Pitch Your Own Idea session which ran just before lunch. All four Entrepreneurs sat as a panel and students who had prior to the event sent in business ideas pitched to them. The range of ideas was outstanding and the effort students went to was incredible. Everything from advertising on toilet rolls, weighted pegs to the Majiq roller was pitched. All these sensational ideas the panel of entrepreneurs gave useful tips and comments on how to progress with, all based on their own life experiences.
As the person recruiting the speakers for next year’s event I will certainly have sleepless nights on how to improve the great line up of speakers for the 6th event next year. However I will at least go to bed knowing that some of this year’s attendees will become the entrepreneurs of the future after hearing from Tristram, Natasha, Louis and Adam.
