Live! 2014, what a great success!

European Study Tours were delighted to welcome 1600 students to Disneyland® Paris for our Live! events last weekend.


Held in the heart of the Disney Village, students of  ICT, Business and Media studies heard from a great line up of inspirational speakers while Performing Arts students participated in exciting and challenging workshops, behind the scenes in the Disney studios.

Successful broadcaster Sian Jones chaired the day and kick-started with ICT Live! During the morning students heard from Kate Russell who has been presenting and writing about technology, gaming and the internet since 1995.

Students then heard from Ian Livingstone, one of the UK’s leading pioneers of interactive entertainment and fiction.

Next on stage was Ed Bussey, founder of Quill, a global content creation company. He shared his expertise on start-up successes and producing inspiring content for brands on any topic, in any language and any format.

One of the highlights of Business Live! was Fraser Doherty’s superb presentation on Super Jam and the issues and challenges that he faced as a young entrepreneur.

Next students heard from Mark Pilkington from Disneyland® Paris; as Head of Commercial he shared his experience of working in the tourism industry and how the brand has evolved during the recession. He spoke about the importance of identifying your core market as well as using marketing and advertising strategies to drive maximum return from budgets.

Media Live! gave students a fascinating insight into a career in the media and brought the subject to life through case studies and real life experiences.

Lucy Brett, Head of Education at the British Board of Film Classification, explained the role of the BBFC and illustrated their work through a range of film clips, giving examples of their decision-making process with familiar titles from the big screen.

Students also heard from writer, broadcaster and commentator David Aaronovitch from The Times on his experiences working in the industry.

Prior to the event, students were asked to submit an advertisement on a theme of their choice in either a TV, print or web format. We received some great entries across the three advertising mediums and you made it really hard to pick a winner. So we picked two: South Essex College for their 2014 Winter Olympics print advertisement and Stourbridge College's video advert on internet safety. Congratulations!

Performing Arts Live! gave students the chance to participate in challenging and inspiring vocal, dance and musical theatre workshops designed to initiate and broaden their artistic experience. The workshops are carried out by coaches who have been Disney Cast Members themselves, or who have worked with Disney for a long time, giving a real insight into the industry and Disney auditions.
