Everyone knows that we love a bit of a baking competition in the office, but we wouldn't dream to challenge a world-renowned baking superstar. So you could say we were surprised when we got a call saying that one of the students from the Darlington College trip to New York has challenged the Cake Boss himself Buddy Valastro, to a trans-Atlantic bake-off!
And we've just found out that the whole thing be filmed for his global reality TV show, Cake Boss, shown on digital channel TLC in the UK!
Apprentice chef Tomas Wood challenged Buddy during their trip when the college visited their New Jersey store Carlo's Bakery. The 17-year-old will spend two days shooting footage a future edition of Cake Boss, and sharing his special recipe for cannoli, a Sicilian pastry filled with creams and fruits, to challenge ones sold by Mr. Valastro's bakery. Tomas will be accompanied by his tutor Donna Joyce and Louise Warren Temple.
“This is the chance of a lifetime for Tom and we are thrilled that Buddy has invited us on to his show", Ms Joyce said to the Northern Echo. “The trip to New York was amazing and is helping all 16 Level 3 patisserie and confectionery students focus on their careers. Quite a few want to go back to New York to work and the trip has given them all drive and ambition to succeed in their qualifications and lives.”
Tomas, Donna and Louise will be flying out today! We wish them good luck and a safe journey!
AND MAKE SURE YOU BRING US BACK SOME CANNOLI!
