BBC's The Code

BBC's The Code

The code is a three-part TV series about maths in the world around us, presented by Marcus du Sautoy.

Why do bees make hexagonal honeycomb? Who is in charge of the flight of flock of swallows? How can dozens of wrong answers make a correct one?

Have you joined Marcus on his exciting journey to discover The Code?

Follow Marcus' on his odyssey to uncover the code and reveal its meaning. Inspire your maths students by following in Marcus' footsteps with a visit to Northern Ireland to experience the Giant's Causeway and put maths into practice.

The Giant's Causeway is renowned for its polygonal colomns of layered basalt. The formation of the Giant's Causeway was due to intense volcanic activity. Its the Middle Basalt Rock which forms the famous amphitheatres of hexagonal colomns in the Causeway.

The code is also a treasure hunt with clues hidden in each episode of the show, in a series of online games and blogs.
