An Insiders report to Berlin

This blog has been created from the experiences of a recent staff trip to Berlin. Please download the Insiders Report ebook for the full guide.

Fernsehturm Berlin - TV Tower

The tallest & most recognisable structure in the Berlin skyline. This visit gives people a 360° view of the City with information about what can be seen & the history of Berlin. There is an express elevator which takes people to the viewing area in around 30 seconds. We would highly recommend visiting during the day whilst it’s light to fully appreciate the view of Berlin.

DDR Museum

This is an interactive museum which exhibits what life was like under the GDR & the realities of life under socialism. There is plenty of educational content for the students which is presented in a hands-on way to fully engage them. Exhibits include a Trabant driving simulator & an authentic reproduction of a typical home. The museum is very innovative & we feel students will enjoy the way that the information is presented by video, audio, reading & through interaction.

The home of the German Parliament. This is an impressive building with the tour giving access to the roof-top & dome. There is a free audio guide controlled by GPS which can tell exactly what you were looking at based on your positioning as well as providing historical information. A must-visit for all groups & we feel this would be an ideal evening activity as it is open until 10pm.

After spending some time in Berlin we now have a much better understanding of the layout of the city and how to get around it. The city also lived up to the expectation of ‘German efficiency’ with a fantastic, clean, punctual & cheap transportation system.
