A whiff of something rather special – Fragonard Parfumeur

Paris is the World Capital of Luxe. In 1926 Eugene Fuchs opened a perfumery in Grasse in homage to the famous painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The family-run business has been passed down the family and in recent decades developed into new areas including jewellery and lifestyle goods.

The historic factory still operates today in the heart of the old town of Grasse and it possible to visit the laboratories, workshops and packaging rooms. During a visit you can discover how products are created and how both traditional methods and modern technology are used today. A modern factory is also situated in the entrance to the city. By visiting the factories you can learn about the history of the perfume industry and also how a perfumer (“nose”) masters the art of fragrance creation. There is also the opportunity to create your very own eau de toilette or cologne at the end of the program.

The Fragonard Perfume Museum, which opened in 1983, occupies a very lovely Napoleon III town house built in 1860 by Lesoufaché, a student of Garnier. The decoration is entirely of that period. Here you can discover a wonderful collection of perfumery objects that take you travelling through the ages. Visitors can take a free guided tour of this prestigious museum which is situated just a few steps from the Opéra Garnier.

Students can participate in “Conference Luxe” whilst at the museum. This conference is on reservation only and is dependent on the availability of room and a group leader. Topics covered include:

  • France « Country of Luxe » especially since the reign of Louis XIV
  • Why Paris is the World Capital of Luxe?
  • A professional’s career 35 years of Luxe, an original story
  • The meaning and the origin of the world luxe
  • The products which represent the world of Luxe
  • The leading French groups and their strategy
  • The luxe stores in Paris
  • How luxury goods are unaffected during a crisis
  • Fragonard Parfumeur: the niche label, luxury accessible to all!
