Ancient Theater of Epidaurus
Epidaurus was a small city in ancient Greece, in the Saronic Gulf. The modern town Epidavros, part of the prefecture of Argolis, was built near the ancient site.
The theater was designed by Polykleitos the Younger in the 4th century BC. The original 34 rows were extended in Roman times by another 21 rows. As is usual for Greek theaters (and as opposed to Roman ones), the view on a lush landscape behind the skênê is an integral part of the theater itself and is not to be obscured. It seats up to 15,000 people.
The theater is marveled for its exceptional acoustics, which permit almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken word from the proscenium or skênê to all 15,000 spectators, regardless of their seating (see Ref., in Greek). Famously, tour guides have their groups scattered in the stands and show them how they can easily hear the sound of a match struck at center-stage.

Arromanches
This vast manmade port played a key role in the bringing of supplies to the Allied forces in 1944. The Museum of the D-Day landings was built on the very site where the artificial port was installed and where remains of the original can still be seen just a few hundred metres out to sea. The Mulberry, code name for the port, was a gigantic project from an idea conceived by Winston Churchill. The port which was the most important in the world during the Battle for Caen enabled provisions to get through to the troops fighting in the Battle of Normandy. Working models, videos and projected films all help to fully understand the incredible technical challenge undertaken to construct and put into place the artificial port.
The Arromanches 360 centre involves a 360 degrees film projection. It mixes unreleased footage from archives of war correspondents, filmed on D Day, with present day pictures, shot on location.

Brandenburg Gate
Built from 1788 to 1791, the Brandenburg Gate served as an entry way to the city, which at that time was the capital of the Kingdom of Prussia. The gate is topped by the Quadriga, a goddess of victory in a chariot. Originally conceived as "the gate of peace", the ensemble came to be seen by some people as a memorial to the victory in the wars of liberation fought from 1813 to 1814 against Napoleon and French rule in central Europe. At the end of World War II, the Brandenburg Gate was situated in the Soviet sector and thus became part of East Berlin. It was inaccessible from either the eastern or the western side. It was here, at the Brandenburg Gate, that the process of sealing off the eastern half of the city began as units of the People's Police and the East German army arrived in the early morning hours of August 13,1961. But it was here, too, that the end of Germany's division was heralded twenty-six years later.

Dionysus Theater
The Theatre of Dionysus was a major open-air theatre in Athens, where plays were performed at festivals in honour of the god Dionysus. In 534 BCE the Athenian dictator Peisistratus transferred the Dionysiac festival from the rural district of Eleutherae to downtown Athens.
The plays that formed a part of these festivals were at first performed on a flat circular area in the Agora of Athens, but were transferred about 500 BC to the sloping southern side of the Acropolis, where a temple to Dionysus was also built.
Dedicated to the god of wine and fertility, it hosted the City Dionysia festival. Amongst those to have competed are all of the renowned dramatists of the classical era, such as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes.

Dome of the Ascension
The Church of the Holy Ascension was taken by Saladin in 1187 and converted into a mosque and remains such today. It contains what is traditionally the last footprint of Jesus on earth before he ascended into heaven.
Two other places are claimed to be the location of the ascension. Constantine's mother Helena built a church under the modern Paternoster Church to commemorate this event. A much later tradition connects the Russian Orthodox Church of the Ascension to Christ's return into heaven.
Scripture indicates that the Jesus ascended into heaven in the vicinity of Bethany. This village is down the east slope of the Mt. of Olives about 1.5 miles (2 km). In this case, none of the traditional locations for the ascension are correct.

Ischia
Ischia is an island of volcanic origins in Italy's Campania region, at the northern end of the Bay of Naples. The island is easily reached by ferries and hydrofoils from Naples and is part of a large volcanic area that was very active in the distant past, and its rocks and mountains bear witness to their volcanic formation. The most recent eruption took place in 1302, and since then the bubbling volcanic activity below ground is evidenced only by the island's 69 fumaroles and its hot springs. Earthquakes have been more common in recent centuries, and a large earthquake in 1883 destroyed many of the island's historic buildings, almost flattening the town of Casamicciola.

Theatre and Temple of Apollo
During the Mycenaean period, the female deity of Earth was worshipped in the small settlement of Delphi. The development of the sanctuary and oracle began in the 8th century BC with the establishment of the cult of Apollo. The sanctuary continued to be autonomous after the First Sacred War and increased its panhellenic religious and political influence. It was enlarged and enriched with nice buildings, statues, and other offerings. With the spread of Christianity, the sanctuary lost its religious meaning and was permanently closed down. The site is divided into three parts: the Sacred Precinct, the Marmaria (Sanctuary of Athena with its distinctive Tholos) and the Castalian spring. There is also a museum which contains a rare collection of sculpture and the most famous exhibit is the Charioteer, one of the few surviving bronzes of the 5th century BC.
