Tailor-made School Trips to York

Overview
Reasons to Visit
Places to Stay
  • Overview

Inspire your learners with a trip to Yorkshire and the Pennine village where the Brontë sisters lived and wrote, see the Brontë Bridge, the ruins of Top Withens said to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights, and the Brontë Falls.

  • Reasons to Visit
    1. Yorvik Viking Education Centre

See houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik as it stood 1,000 years ago.

    2. Original Ghost Walk York

Discover the hidden magic of the ancient city with a guided fun but authentic ghost walk.

    3. York Castle Museum

The Castle Museum opened in 1938 and is located in what used to be the old Castle Prison. In 1068 William the Conqueror built a castle in York, which included a prison. Although the old prison is part of the museum, the castle building itself is now York Crown Court. Dick Turpin was one famous prisoner who was hanged in 1739 for horse stealing. The museum shows aspects of British daily life throughout the ages. Current exhibitions include Period Rooms, Toy Gallery, Kirkgate, and the 1960’s Gallery. There are thousands of objects on display at the museum as well as recreations of rooms, streets, prison cells and shops.

    4. York Minster Learning Centre

You can choose from a range of workshops to find out about the past and present life of the Minster. Many topics link into the National Curriculum. The hour in the centre is based on inter-active teaching, which includes a multi-media presentation and (depending on your workshop choice) models, a working replica of a masons' loft, vestments and medieval stained glass on a light box. Students can also learn for themselves from a variety of relevant hands-on activities.
