The National Portrait Gallery
There are over 200,000 portraits in this collection spanning as far back as the 16th century in the form of paintings, drawings, negatives, photographs, sculptures, prints and more. The NGP showcases the very best in British history and culture, as well as some exclusive exhibits from the greatest artists from around the world.

Quite literally a city within the city. A vast, multi-level maze of galleries, passageways, staircases and escalators famous for the artistic glories it contains. Some 35,000 works of art and artefacts are on show, with Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek, Middle Eastern, Islamic and Roman each owning an individual space across its three gigantic wings.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
MoMA’s permanent collection encompasses seven curatorial departments: Architecture and Design, Drawings, Film, Media, Painting and Sculpture, Photography, and Prints and Illustrated Books. Highlights include Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, as well as masterpieces by Giacometti, Hopper, Matisse, Monet, O’Keeffe, Pollock, Rothko, Warhol and many others.

Van Gogh Museum
Over 200 paintings and 500 drawings by Van Gogh are housed here, as part of the permanent collection as well as a selection of his Japanese prints and a good selection of work by his contemporaries, such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin and Monet.

Museu d'Història de Catalunya
Text, film, animated models and reproductions of everything from a medieval shoemaker's shop to a 1960s bar are crammed into two floors detailed a history of the Spanish region. There are some cool interactive workshops and a few excellent temporary exhibitions typically examining recent aspects of regional politics and history. The huge rooftop café terrace has unbeatable views over the city and marina. Perfect for a couple landscape sketches to get AO3 off to a good start.

Bauhaus is one of the most important schools of architecture, design and art of the 20th century, and its products have maintained their influence on design up to the present day. Housed in a building designed by this movement’s founder, the museum traces its history and also boasts the most complete Bauhaus collection.
