The teachers and students from Redmoor Academy in Leicestershire have just come back from an amazing week in Iceland and couldn’t wait to tell us about it!
Iceland is a popular school trip destination for pupils studying Geography and Ellie Woodward, trip leader and Head of Humanities at Redmoor Academy was particularly impressed with their tour guide during their stay.
“I would like to take this opportunity to pass on our thanks and gratitude to our guide Martina. She was excellent as a guide, informative and spoke on a level which was very accessible to our pupils. She had interesting stories and also included humour as well.”
The group stayed at The Hotel Cabin, right in the centre of Reykjavík and that features an amazing mountain view.
“The bedrooms were comfortable and clean and we were all placed on the same corridor”, Ellie said, “The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful and [understood] our needs as a school party”.
The most important part though, is the excursion experiences, and according to Ellie, the day trips across the week were “exceptional” and that the pupils were very excited about the day and evening activities planned for them.
Unfortunately, they missed out on the tour of Reynisfjall, a beautiful peninsula on the South Shore of Iceland.
“It would have meant we returned to the hotel too late for dinner. I didn't feel that this was an issue as the pupils could see the structure anyway but just didn't get closer!”
There really aren’t enough hours in the day! We hope they get to see it when they come back for a second visit!
