Our New York Design Experience event was a runaway success with 350 students, all of whom had travelled from across the UK, leaving inspired by four expert speakers and leading designers in their field.
Held at the prestigious Parsons New School for Design, students heard from a fantastic line-up of speakers and found out how to turn design ideas into reality as well as the challenges and experiences they have each encountered throughout their careers.
Mara Kurtz, our Chair for the day and former President of the Type Directors Club, welcomed everyone to the event before inviting Chloe Gottlieb to the stage to talk about her ground-breaking work and current projects at R/GA.
Stephen Doyle then talked us through his inspirations and how he takes a his design work from initial brief to finished article and how ideas develop along the way.
Paula Scher gave the audience an insight into to her architectural design work, focussing on her passion for taking run-down or under-used spaces and giving them a new lease of life, particularly her involvement with the famous New York High Line project.
Sagi Haviv then shared his expertise in logo design, giving a history of some of the world's most famous logos and how this brings about its own particular challenges, in order to understand each client and achieve a design which is just right.
Chip Kidd rounded off the day with a lively finale. His audience-grabbing presentation included a summary of his revolutionary book cover designs.
The highlight of the event was hearing students ask their questions throughout the day and even stay behind to meet the speakers afterwards, giving them a truly interactive experience!
