Our Insider's Experience of New York
Two of European Study Tours team members Claire and Billy, recently embarked on a residential tour of New York, where they travelled and explored the 'city that never sleeps' with Mr Lall and his group from Warren Comprehensive. The group travelled with United Airlines and quickly got a taste of New York with a 2 hour long immigration queue, before tackling the cold NY streets. Up first on the list of attractions was the well known Empire State Building, then off to Sunday morning mass at St Patrick's, before walking around Wall Street and the Financial District.
Claire notes that a great activity for Art and Design or Photography students is a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge were students can absorb the character of historical buildings and side walk artistry. Plus it's free!
The New York Public Library also has free exhibitions and special displays at three research library locations, were artists examine themes within the performing arts, black culture and much more.
The group enjoyed dining at the at a variety of restaurants including Bubba Gump's, Heartland Brewery, Planet Hollywood, Café R, and Tick Tock Diner, where they enjoyed fluffy pancakes and extra crispy bacon.
In true New Yorker fashion, pupils and staff utilised the subway system were they could truly experience New York with all of the "craziness of Time Square and calmness of Central Park, Hip Hop, busking singers, famous sights and landmarks around every corner. The big apple- take a bite and you will want some more!"
