Ian Livingstone inspired the ICT curriculum...

Is the ICT curriculum providing students with the right skills?

Top industry experts including Ian Livingstone sought to inspire the audience about the ICT curriculum at the Coding & Creativity: The Future of ICT in Schools event on July 1st 2013, as published in The Observer.

"Even though the world is in slight disarray... there has never been a better opportunity than today for those equipped with the skills for the digital and creative industries to succeed."

Those were the words of Ian Livingstone, speaking to students at Bournemouth University as he received an honorary degree. Livingstone has consistently been at the forefront of technological development, from his early work as a co-founder of Games Workshop to his role as life president at the ground-breaking computer gaming company Eidos, where he helped to introduce the world to Lara Croft.

The world is increasingly and rapidly becoming governed by technological ability, and we should be equipping the next generation with all the skills necessary to help them shape and engage with the future, says The Observer.

This was the theme of Coding & Creativity: The Future of ICT in Schools, the one-day event that presented recent research, thinking and advice on programming, computational thinking and the arts in schools. The event provided educators, researchers, policy-makers, industry and cultural institutions with the ideas and inspiration to advance the modern ICT curriculum and respond to an expanding digital environment. There were talks by Ian Livingstone and it was supported by The Observer, the RSA, Creativeworks London and the London Knowledge Lab.

Ian Livingstone, pioneer of interactive entertainment and fiction, and one of the top players behind best selling games such as Hitman is speaking at our ICT Live! event at Disneyland® Paris on Monday 3rd March 2014, where students get to hear from professionals who have made an impact. Click here to find out more about ICT Live! 2013 and our other event speakers!
