Dickens 2012 is an International Celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens which will take place to mark his 200th birthday.

A writer from the Victorian era, Dickens' work transcends his time, language and culture. He remains a massive contemporary influence throughout the world and his writings continue to inspire film, TV, art, literature, artists and academia.

Dickens 2012 will see a rich and diverse programme of events taking place in the run up and throughout the whole of 2012.

A Hankering after Ghosts: Charles Dickens and the supernatural 29 Nov 2011 - 4 Mar 2012 at the British Library

This exhibition examines the references Dickens makes to the supernatural in his works and what they reveal about his own personal and occasionally surprising ideas on the phenomena, which in turn reflect the evolving scientific theories and beliefs prevalent in 19th Century England.

Recreating the atmosphere of Victorian London through sound and projections, you'll be taken on a haunting journey to discover the city that inspired his writings.
